Best Camera for Up Close Full Body Pics?

First let me say that I know nothing about cameras. I was wondering if someone could tell me what the best affordable camera would be for taking full body (head to toe) close up pictures. I’m hearing a lot about Nikon and I understand I might also have to buy a lens? Oh, if it matters the pictures would be taken outdoors. Please help.

The details you have provided help a great deal. :)

I would highly recommend the Canon Digital Rebel XT. It’s a high performing entry-level dSLR, with 8MP and the ability to use the full line of Canon lenses. It has all the manual controls you need to fully control your images’ exposure. I had one as my first dSLR and I was able to take some amazing shots with it. Can’t go wrong with a Canon!

As for a lens that gets full body, you’ll need to go wide, and by wide, I mean wide-angle lens. For the XT, I’d stick with the kit lens for awhile. Learn to use your dSLR and you’ll become a better judge of the controls.

After you’ve adjusted to dSLRs, you can move up in image quality. From there, I’d recommend the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. The focal length (17-50mm) will give you wide-angle to normal telephoto range, which is perfect for your shooting. The f/2.8 will ensure nice background blur and better shooting in lower light situations. (lower f-number = bigger aperture = more light into camera)

Good luck!
