if you are a Doors or Jim Morrison’s fan, it would be great to answer to make other people discover their music
I have always liked the line from Celebration of the Lizard where Jim says, and she was beside me her dark red hair…. anyway, that is the person that seemingly kills Jim. I just liked it because the coloring characteristics fit me, so I always like to hear that line. Anyway, this is not a lyric that I like for serious reasons, and it didn’t have much of an impact.
There are a lot of lyrics that I like from Door’s songs. Not to be one of those people, but I do tend to prefer Jim’s lyrics to Robby.
I’ve always been partial to the lyrics in Not To Touch the Earth, my favorite is the dead president’s corpse part. I love the subtlety and symbolism in the whole song, but this one seems to particularly stand out. As for the impact it had on me, it just made me think more about things and try to figure things out and incorporate skills like that into my writing (real writing, not Y!A stuff)
Sorry for not pinpointing a particular lyric, but I loves the writing of A Feast of Friends, for those who don’t know the song it’s lyrics are here: http://www.metrolyrics.com/a-feast-of-friends-lyrics-the-doors.html I just like the whole feeling from the lyrics, and again it is one of those thought provoking things that really make you think and wonder about life.
Again, sorry for mentioning a whole song, but Crystal Ship has some of the most beautiful lyrics. I can’t find a certain one that I like any more than another, but they are all so profound and poetic, it really shows Jim’s talents as a songwriter.
As much as people make fun of and complain about the Soft Parade album there are some really cool songs there. First there is Soft Parade who has very neat lyrics, almost a symbolism of life. Then there is Easy Ride http://www.metrolyrics.com/easy-ride-lyrics-the-doors.html which has some really interesting lyrics. I really like the fourth and sixth verses, they are just so visual and poetic, a lot of times they just pop into my head and stays there for a while.
In Five To One I like the trade in your hours lyric as I see it as a direct insult to the “hippies” as much people acted like Jim was a “hippie” he didn’t like them, as much as I wish that I came up with this statement, he compared them to leeches, something that perfectly describes how I feel about them, so I like to think this when approached by our modern day people attempting to be hippies, I know it is a little mean, but I can’t help it.
From End of the Night I like the chorus http://www.metrolyrics.com/end-of-the-night-lyrics-the-doors.html if you look at the lyrics they really make a statement, and are once again very poetic.
Orange County Suite is a beautifully written song which has a very sad feel but still remains to be a favorite. Impact wise, I don’t really know.
All of Strange Days is very poetic, in my opinion it has some of the best lyrics. I am all about the felling or thought the song leaves you with, and this song really is that way, it is actually hard to describe.
My negative side likes Money Beats Soul, I like the irony of it and how some people understand the point while others make a big deal out of something they don’t understand.
These are dumb examples, but my 2nd middle name (which you get in the religion I was born into) I chose Gloria from the song (although it is a cover) in some versions of Crossroads it sounds like my first my first name is said, I forget what is really said.
I know there were no specific examples of an impact, but since I “know” these songs a lot it is difficult to describe or even remember my initial reaction or thought from them. I know that I have had an impression from these songs, but now it is part of me, almost an aspect or piece of my personality so it is hard to word or remember.
To me the real measure of an effect of a lyric or song is when you are thinking about something entirely different and a lyric seems to pop into your mind that explains your thought or feeling on the subject, and this happens to me a lot.
I like your question a lot, it isn’t too often that people ask questions about lyrics other than what is this song or whatever. Sorry I couldn’t answer the question better, I have a problem thinking of the words that describe what I am trying to say.
