CCIE !!! My question is unless you have tried to get the CCIE how do you know if the CERT is not worth it?
I hear people with little knowledge saying that the CCIE cert is worth nothing and that people pre – CCNA know more because they have done networking for 5 years know more than a CCIE would…
Do you guys even know what is involved in the CCIE??? Thousands of hours of study on real live kit with equipment, more in depth knowledge than most people can consume in many years…
And It has got me Jobs that non-certified engineers would never get to touch e.g. re-designing networks for the MOD / ISP’s International banks and Massive Utility companies… Which gives you the experience edge too.
My question is unless you have tried to get the CCIE how do you know if the CERT is not worth it???? And how do you know if you are a good engineer when their maybe massive gaps in your theoretical and practical knowledge??
Anyone who has been seriously involved in networking for any length of time at all knows that the CCIE is the Rolls Royce of IT certs. It’s one of the few, if not the only cert where you have to prove your abilities in a hands-on, high-pressure, timed environment. There’s no such thing as a “paper” CCIE.
While someone with 5 years of experience in enterprise networking and no certs MIGHT be able to blow your typical freshly-minted CCNA or CCNP into the weeds, they’re not likely to have the breadth and depth of experience that the typical CCIE does unless he or she has been working in a carrier-class environment under the tutelage of a highly qualified — and probably a CCIE — mentor.
Let the twinkies who think that they know better go ahead with their mindless rants. What the hell do you care?? If you have your CCIE, then congrats. You’ve attained something that less than 1% of all IT pros will ever achieve.
