Flow Wall

By admin

How much would it cost knock out a wall between rooms and put in french doors?

We are buying a house where the ‘flow’ is off. I want to knock out part of the wall and put in french doors between two rooms. This would be on the ground floor of a two story house (with a basement). At this stage we are not sure if the wall is load bearing or not so pricing for both would be helpful.

Thanks

It’s been many days since you asked, and no one has answered, so I’ll give it a shot.

Buying a house, no matter what kind and for how much, is a big investment. Asking for help here on Yah is a good step, but not enough when it comes to a big-ticket item like a house purchase. In short, you need the assessment of a local house pro in your area to see what you are getting into, specifically to see what can be done with the house you intend to buy. So, with that said, and given the remodeling intention you have, I’d seek the advice of local remodeling contractors–they have the local knowledge that you need, as to what you can do with the house, the local products available, the local rate and costs, etc., especially as it relates to your specific intention of knocking out one wall and putting in french doors.

While you still have not bought your house, I think it is perfectly reasonable and okay to meet with a local remodeling contractor out in front of the house to allow the contractor the benefit of seeing the house you intend to buy first hand. There’s no obligation on your part if you seek one of the many local remodeling contractors in your area who are willing to provide free estimates. Relying on guesses found here on Yah is not recommended, as many factors–including that material and labor costs vary by location–affect the cost of what you are intending to do.

So, to help you out, here is a great link to a handyman site that offers free very resourceful information to assist you in your project, and, of course, finding a local remodeling contractor with intention of getting a good deal for you:

I’m hopeful the above will provide you with the information that is necessary to make a wise consumer choice, including helpful guidance in obtaining free written estimates from the local contractors in your area so that you can make an informed decision about your project.

Online sources, as noted. Being informed is critical in making right deicisions; I have found the Internet helps in this area. Some are not as effective in navigating the Internet to get the information they need, so with the intention of helping, I rely on my knowledge, including from my development of sites, such as the one cited above, to help those who need, hoping they will, in turn, help others.
