Using a piece of wood and staining it for a headboard?
The headboard I want is $400 for basically a dark stained piece of wood. It got me to thinking is there any way I could just use the upholstered headboard idea only use a nicer piece of wood and stain it the color I would like? If this would work what type of wood is good to use? Should I screw it into the wall or what? Thanks!
Why yes and you can make the headboard yourself! Here is how I’ve done it, assuming you want the upholstery in the middle surrounded by wood on the outside. First get a piece of regular old plywood at the home improvement center cut in the shape you desire for the head board. Then choose a molding to surround the upholstery in the lengths for 3 sides of the headboard. Use spray adhesive in the area you want to upholster, then attach batting to the adhesive. Then stretch the fabric of your choice over the batting, but lay a piece of molding above the batting on the plywood and stretch the fabric a few inches under that. Staple down the fabric. Then paint or stain the molding and attach that to the plywood over the fabric being sure to miter the edges of the molding for a smoother look. Attach 2 lengths of 2 x 4 wood to the back aligning them to the holes for that purpose in the bed frame and use carriage bolts to secure the head board to the frame. Viola!
