Stainless Steel Piano

By admin

Is there a modern day replacement for this piano part?

My piano is an Ivers and pond from the late 1880s.
I’ve been tinkering it and i’ve gotten somewhat good at making my own repairs to it.
However this one piece frustrates me,

(without the screws already)
The hammer butt flange.
The one’s in my piano are made of brass.
Some of them are loose, and some of them are just broken.
So these are my few questions.
It seems that these people would only make these out of brass because they didn’t have stainless steel back then, am I right about that? or do they need to be made of brass?
Are mine only cracking because the brass pieces are old?
And also when I replace them, I either worry i’m not going to tighten them enough and then a week later they’ll be loose and i’ll have to go and take the action out. Or i’m worried that i’ll tighten them too much and they’ll crack.
That’s a lot of information but if you answer my question i’ll be very very thankful
please help!

Hiii wow ur piano is from the 1880s? cool!
I cant give u any postive answer im afraid but, all i can say is u need to consult a good piano technision. they will know for sure.
I only know to play but know not much abt the inside parts of a piano.
What i know is that piano’s even the wood of it needs care coz it cld rot. so u need to apply anti wood rot liquid or somthing.
Im really sorry i wish i can answer ur ques. but hope u find the right answer soon.
all the best
